Happy New Year!

So what's been going on? Damn, so much I don't even know where to start!
2010 wasn't bad at all! Hope your year was good too.

Let's see, saw a handfull of amazing bands this year. Finally had the chance to see Iron Maiden! As a birthday present as well thanks to my brother Cedric and the Danko Jones guys. Wonderfull. Too bad I heard nothing but bad reviews about the gig but I loved every second of it!!

Let's see, had a couple of great days hosting that wild buch from Austin Texas, The Bulemics. Good to see Wes Texas on board again! Man, I love this band, great dudes too. Watched a couple of movies at home here between gigs and got another matching tattoo with Gerry Atric. Yes, we're straight.

Been digging my brother's band The Sore Losers all year. From something so completely different than EL Guapo STuntteam they know whatsup. Glad to see they're doing pretty well. Yeah I know, my badass punk and rock n roll fans still don't get it, but one day you will.

A couple of weeks ago I got lucky enough by introducing none other than the Boys from Brutallsville themselves ANTiSEEN at Speedfest. That was nuts!! I always wanted to be on fire with them. I even brought Jeff Clayton's barbed wire Axehandle which I made in parent's garage. "What the hell are you doing with that stick?" my father asked me. "Ah...it's a wrestling thing dad!". "Just don't beat anyone up with it".
It was great hanging out with ANTiSEEN all day, great new people in the band, Phill Keller and Jon Bowman, southern gentlemen. Not sure if they wanna hear that, but in fact the whole band are amazing folks. Crazy how many souvenirs they gave me! Much appreciated!! Great to see all the people who came over from Belgium, Germany, Itally to see the gig. Was like a big reunion!

Okay, a little while ago, We shot a commercial for the BIFFF festival. Sure i'm being typecasted, but what the hell, it's a lot of fun. Zombies, fire, girls, chainsaws...MAYHEM!!!
Can't wait for the final result! It should be online very soon!

Oh and my big TV stunt debut just aired, you know, the one with me in the water on fire in a plastic suit. They threw in some effects and kinda messed it up. COuld've been scary though. But hey, Put me in a plastic suit and no pay and no credits...I'm not that stupid.

Okay, that should be it for now...just a little update staright outa Belgium. Hope you all had a nice Christmas and all the best wishes for the new year!!

Later,
Captain

PS...Did I mention I met Roky Erickson?

Sore Losers

Damn! The Sore Losers video shoot was a blast! I gotta say that getting out of bed at 6am and take a train to Antwerp was a pain in the ass. But like I said...The shoot was a lotta fun.
For the Sore Losers video Toon Aerts yet again had some of the finest people on set working hard and making it all work. I like that, never a boring moment and everyone knew and did what had to be done. It's pretty crazy what we did in one weekend. There were people flying through the air in wires, dudes getting blown through walls, we got shot, we got stabbed, punched, blown up, kicked...And we got to do a little shooting ourselves! Here're a few pictures. Video will be all over the place in a little while.

Here's yours truly killing people:

Yours truly getting shot:

Here's one pissed of little lady:

Yep, must've been something I said:

Aftermath with Joris Strickx, stuntman. If you're ever afraid about missing the train home, have the on-set stuntman give you a lift to the station!

Swampmonsters, polyester and machineguns.

More then a month since the last update here. Well, nothing THAT spectacular happened besides the fact that me and the misses have moved to a new appartment. Pretty fancy place with plenty of room for our stuff...finally!

I have been doing some stuff for a tv show recently. They needed someone to play a burning swampmonster, so who do you call who is willing to jump into a dirty pond at 4am in the morning with a polyester monster suit on and willing to set it on fire? Right, yours truly. I did three burns that morning, using watergel for the first time and let me tell you, what a revelation! It was provided by the network. The suits were also provided by them and I can tell you, I was not happy with the polyester issue. But I was able to work it out on the spot to make sure nothing really could go wrong and I was in the water anyway. The local fire brigade was on shore just in case as there were some majore fire explosions involved too. I can assure you, walking around on fire at 4am in the morning through a pond in the middle of nowhere with big explosions going of sending these huge mushroom like flames up in the sky is defenitly a pretty cool experience. The down part was the long waits and my 'waterproof' pants and boots being filled with icecold water. Another one for the list.
Here's a shot with part of the suit:

Next sunday i'll be on set for the videoshoot of my brother's new band The Sore Losers. Looking forward being on set again with Toon Aerts. I haven't worked with Toon since the Back from the Grave video a few years ago. h yeah, there was the post nuke photoshoot, but I rather be on set with him. Toon sounded very excited on the phone earlier this week. He said something about wirework, machineguns, squibs and all in all, a whole lotta action!

Forget about that Future of Cinema blog...

All bullshit. But I made a few good points there. Still...I got a call recently from some girl asking me if i'd be interested in doing a burn for free for a television show. I thought about it for three seconds and told her "sure". Hey, she caught me off guard, I was in the process of waking up. What a pushover
Well, atleast i'll be playing a swampmonster who will come out of a lake on fire! Not sure how to pull that one off, but we'll make it work. Explosions and big fireballs are also involved. Oh yeah, i've been on set to check it out, there's catering!

Remember video?

I'm sure I don't need to tell you what a homo I am when it comes to videos. Especialy ex-rentals from the golden age of videostores.
There's nothing I dislike about rental videos and i'm proud to say i'm one of those assholes who even enjoys the copyright warnings and label intros, especially those intros.

Here's the Thorn EMI intro. One of the first I found really exciting. I remember 'Dallas', the first videostore in town and it had a big Thorn Emi sign hanging outside over the sidewalk. The video store used to play Thorn Emi trailers all day long and I would hang around in there watching the same trailers over and over, stuff like The Soldier, The Burning, Madman and those crazy early 80's german sexploitation films.

Another one that released tons of great stuff was Video for Pleasure. That label was the shit for stuff as The Beyond, Maniac, Zombie Holocaust...and tons of x-rated stuff. I still buy almost every title I find on fleamarkets. Sometimes even shitty movies just for nostalgic reasons.

Here's another good one...Video Screen. These came with either this commercial or one for Pal Mall cigarettes. Ah the good ole days. I still have a couple of tapes from this label such as The Evil Dead and The Hills Have Eyes. Yeah, the connection!

Check this out...

I don't wanna brag but I must be doing something right. Right?
Check out the tattoo on my pal Hans, my number one fan and fellow Stunt Rock enthousiast.
These are a couple of pictures from the first two sessions, two more and the thing should be finished. Tattoo is getting done by Guy at Rubicon Tattoo Parlor, Hasselt. Track him down on myspace for more of his amazing work.

Later that day:

Session 2:

I can't wait to see the final result. It'll be finished within two months from now.

Here's some more on Grant Page

While going through a box of stuff i've collected over the years I found a bunch of articles a guy from New Zealand once sent me. These are interviews with legendary Autralian Stuntman Grant Page and a few articles from back in the day about Brian Trenchard Smith's classic action packed cult hits.

I have some articles and interviews which I will upload some other time. My brother had some problem at his NASA like control center this afternoon.

You can grab the articles HERE.

I'm not sure if I praised Grant Page's book "Man on Fire" enough already but I suggest you buy it. I've read it twice in a few days. It's truly an inspiring read not just for those interested in stunts or fans of the man. It's basically a great book for everyone into film making and ozploitation fanatics world wide!
Foreword by Brian Trenchard Smith and Mark Hartley.

I'm sure the book is pretty easy to order on the net. But here's a LINK to the publisher with more info.

Now that's a compliment!

A few months ago, a dude from Germany mailed me with the question if I would be ok with the idea of him getting a Captain Catastrophy tattoo. Well, of course! Knock yourself out! But I didn't expected this! A huge portrait in the side of his body, which really is the most painfull son of a bitch spot you could put a tattoo. I whimped out before and am still walking around with outlines, not really wanting to get the rest done. Now this guy comes around and shows me who's tough!
Shit, when I got a email today and saw the picture I didn't really know what to say. Having somebody running around with something you invented jammed in his skin is quite possibly the biggest compliment one could get!
So check it out.
Phil the Kid, Captain Catastrophy salutes you!
